Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
[Adapted from Let Peace Dwell Here, Herald House, 2021, p. 25]
Since 2007, Community of Christ has found inspiration in the prophetic invitation to “strive to be faithful to Christ’s vision of the peaceable Kingdom of God on earth…courageously challenge cultural, political, and religious trends that are contrary to the reconciling purposes of God, [and]…pursue peace” (Doctrine and Covenants 163:3b). As followers of Jesus, how can we further embody the passion and concerns of Christ (Doctrine and Covenants 164:9c)? Our discernment should be characterized by what is old and new, representing a faithfulness to the New Testament stories of the path paved by Jesus that inspires our pursuit of peace on and for the Earth.
What new thing are we willing to do, what new stories about ourselves and God are we willing to tell, and not the least, how do we frame our relationships with others and Creation? Moving toward the peaceful One is a struggle for all of us and this should not surprise us. As a prophetic people, we are, individually and collectively, called to be on this journey.
Prayer Phrase
“…he has given us a new birth into a living hope” (1 Peter 1:3).
Spiritual Practice
Weaving a Life
Hold, or imagine yourself holding, a piece of patterned cloth. Examine it carefully. Notice overlapping threads, mingling colors that form the design. Write a journal entry or meditate about the threads and patterns of your life. What design do you see? How does the life pattern you are weaving create justice and wholeness in God’s world? What new pattern is God calling you to weave in 2025?
