Members of Tell City’s Community of Christ congregation in Indiana, USA, noticed children in the church neighborhood using the streets in the area when they played basketball.
The church owned a full lot beside its building, and knowing the dangers children face while playing in the street, the congregation pursued construction of a half-size basketball court on its lot.
Earl Miller and Linda Miller, copastors, said the congregation’s first step was contacting Cynthia Rugg, president of the Kentucky-Indiana Mission Center.
The center provided $6,000 USD, about two-thirds of the cost to construct the court. The Tell City congregation paid the rest.
The small congregation also recently decided to help the Adventist Food Pantry, which serves the area. Rugg was consulted again because the food pantry was badly needed, the Millers said. The mission center provided $1,000 USD. The congregation provides a pick-up service when food is distributed from Evansville, Indiana, USA.
