An effort is underway to bring back the Liahona Program at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri, USA.
The Liahona Program was used on college campuses to offer ministry and community-building. Mikki Phillipe, the US Young Adult specialist, and I felt a strong pull to restart this ministry, supporting young adults who do not attend Graceland University, the Community of Christ affiliate in Lamoni, Iowa, USA.
As we have prepared for the relaunch, again and again we have seen examples of what once was offered. They inspire us as we shape what we soon will present.
Our goal is to create a community where young adults feel welcome and can grow in fellowship and community while inviting those who might not know about Community of Christ to join our spiritual family. We also hope to have a lot of fun building memories at UCM.
Both events reminded us that community is built in simple, joyful moments together.
With any new ministry, we expect challenges, but we are ready. As we met for the first time to talk about bringing back this crucial ministry, the words of Community of Christ President Stassi D. Cramm continued to ring: “It’s not about what if we get it wrong, but what if we get it right!”
We already have hosted two events, a bowling party and a spring cleanup of Liahona House. We’re thrilled to see where this ministry will take us. Both events reminded us that community is built in simple, joyful moments together.
We are so thankful for the support of the Central Missouri USA Mission Center, and for Adric Williams and Adrienne Reine, students who are helping lead this journey.
Your donations to worldwide and local mission tithing help make these ministries possible. We are forming current leaders of Community of Christ who will have lasting effects across the church.
