In the heart of Kashiba, Luapula, Zambia, a powerful spirit of unity and renewal arose among 200 young people who gathered for a three-day event centered on spiritual growth and service.
“Hope Is Here” was more than just a weekend program; it was a movement. A movement of youth taking ownership of their faith, their community, and their future.
What made this event truly remarkable was its youth-led nature. Without relying on senior mission center leaders, these passionate young disciples pooled their resources to pay for every aspect of the event—including meals and transportation.
Despite challenges such as limited food and the logistical demands of unexpected numbers, their resilience, generosity, and commitment shone brightly. Youth representatives contributed gifts and supplemented meals, modeling extraordinary servant leadership.
The weekend was vibrant and deeply engaging. Activities included Bible quizzes, singing competitions, and uplifting teachings focused on the mission, beliefs, and message of Community of Christ. There were no guest speakers—because the Spirit already was present in every voice lifted, every hand extended, and every heart opened.
“Hope Is Here” was more than just a weekend program; it was a movement. A movement of youth taking ownership of their faith, their community, and their future.
A sermon, “Alive in Christ,” based on 1 Corinthians 15:19–26, urged many young participants to reflect more deeply on prayer, recognizing that while music remains a vital part of worship, prayer nourishes body and soul.
Another moving moment was when a youth representative shared an original song he had written—a heartfelt expression of his faith journey. It was a powerful reminder of how God speaks through creativity, vulnerability, and courage.
Fellowship was just as central as faith. Whether through shared meals with strangers-turned-friends, group singing that welcomed newcomers, or deep conversations about faith and life, the event fostered lasting connections.
Already, the fruits of this gathering are visible. The youth continue to meet in Kashiba, encouraging one another and drawing in those who couldn’t attend. The event sparked excitement for the coming Mission Center Youth Gathering and ignited a greater dream—a vision of an International Youth Forum bringing together young Community of Christ disciples from all corners of Africa.
The weekend gathering powerfully embodied the Mission Initiatives of Community of Christ while proclaiming Jesus Christ, developing disciples, and building a community of joy, hope, love, and peace. The youth of Luapula have shown that age is no barrier to leadership and impact. With God, and with one another, hope is truly here.
Let us continue to support, celebrate, and walk alongside these young leaders as they carry Christ’s mission forward—across borders and into the future.
