Prayer for Peace

O God, the eternal parent, in this sacred space dedicated to the pursuit of peace I humbly ask you to open our minds to the sweetness of the Spirit. May you incline our ears to the wisdom of your word, to fill our hearts with the vastness of your compassion.

Instill in us the yearning to be people of peace, who internalize a code of personal attitude and behavior that honors your desire for servanthood. May we bring calm where there is turmoil, order where there is chaos, reassurance where there is fear and apprehension.

Make us, O God, instruments of your peace. Lead us into circumstances where reconciliation can be freeing and fulfilling and help us to be agents of that reconciliation.

May your peace move upward in rising spirals from the lives of individuals to the interaction within families and communities until the nations of the world turn their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks, and your kingdom of peace is a reality in this world and our lives.

Hear us O God; in the name of your son, Jesus Christ, the prince of peace. Amen.
