Prayer for Peace

Our most gracious God, as we meet to bring our devotions, we praise your holy name and give thanks for your abiding presence in our lives.

We live in a beautiful world, created for our pleasure and joy. But because of sicknesses of mind and body, because of selfishness and greed, there is physical, mental, and spiritual hunger and poverty abroad.

We pray not only for the absence of conflict but also for the presence of your spirit among the nations. We look to you, O God, as our source of strength and power to show us the way of peace, that as instruments in your hands, we, your people, may be used as agents of peace.

May there be a greater understanding by those in authority of the needs of your people everywhere; that your Holy Spirit might empower and stir them to strive toward unity under the banner of your love. We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
