Prayer for Peace

God of love,

We have come to you at this hour not to ask for divine intervention but to ask that we may answer your call for peace and love in the world. God, we know that you are good. God, we know that you are love. God, we know that you are constantly at work in the world and in people’s lives, bringing about the change that only we, as people immersed in your love, can create. I pray that we become aligned in our hearts, in our thoughts, and most importantly, in our actions.

If actions speak louder than words, then we only whisper with ours. Other people have responded to your call enthusiastically and are the ones shouting God’s love with their actions. Social injustices run rampant in our world today, and we, as God’s people, cannot simply feel God in our hearts. We must feel God in the completeness of our beings. We must get up and actively seek in the world to do God’s will.

Many of us, God, know right and wrong, but we are too scared to do anything about it. We fear getting out of our comfort zone. We fear having to do what it takes to change the world.

Change is never easy to experience. It brings something new into the world, making it different from how it was before. But we have the power not just to be affected by change, but to make the change itself. So, we come to you today, God, not to ask for you to come down and fix everything for us, but to pray that we may become more in tune with you than we ever have been, even if it is just a little bit more than the day before.

We ask you to shape us with your shalom so we are looking down the same path as you, so we can see fully what needs to be done to stop and change the injustices of the world, so we can shape the world in the name of love. May we all be more responsive to your call to peace and love. In the name of Christ Jesus. Amen.
