Today in our prayers for the people of Malta.
Prayer for Peace
Joy Craven Scranton
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
May the lyrical flutes
Make music with the majestic tubas,
The jazzy saxophones with the heavenly harps,
The mellow oboes with the metallic electric guitars.
May the gifts we each bring to the orchestra of life
Be accepted by all its musicians.
In our dissonance, may we hear peace.
In our varied timbres, may we see peace.
May the beauty of our exteriors:
The golds, silvers, woods, strings, reeds,
And yes, the plastics,
Be a blessing of Unity in Diversity
As our sounds create harmony,
May we come with a unison purpose,
one of creating music to make the world better.
Let us put away our mutes
So, without a doubt,
Our voices resound,
“Peace on Earth!”
And with the gusto of the final chords
Of a symphonic masterpiece,
May we crescendo to a finale of
Not just playing,
but living out a life of peace.
Encore! Encore! Encore!
