Prayer for Peace

Divine Creator,

We draw apart from the world around us to pray for peace. This wonderful world with all the possibilities for humankind to live in joy and happiness is continually torn apart by war and strife. You created this world for humankind to live in peace and harmony and to share resources so all may be supported—and that children may be loved, protected, and nurtured by their parents and those around them.

This concept of love from the Divine is the basis of understanding our desires for the world. Causes of war and violence reduce Earth’s resources that could be used to support programs of assistance to all humankind. Human efforts to find solutions to disease and poverty are reduced because nations choose to dominate their neighbors.

“Be still and know that I am God” rings down through the ages, calling all peoples to follow “him” who said: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” The image of peace, the dove and the olive branch calls each one in the world to respond to “this is my beloved Son, hear ye Him.”

May the peace of the creator that passes all understanding be in your hearts this day, and let us join all peoples, all faiths, all nations in the yearning of our hearts that together we say, “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.” Amen.
