Prayer for Peace

Lenten Team

Holy One we pray this day,

God, who sets journey within our hearts, make these forty days of Lent meaningful so that busyness does not undermine contemplation. Quiet our minds and spirits, lead us in these wandering days again to the foot of the cross.

God of love, hear the cry of those who yearn for your love; broken families, fragmented homes, those who are neglected, unwanted, and alone.

God of justice, hear the cry of those who yearn for justice; individuals, groups, and families, mistreated and oppressed, demoralized, ill-treated, broken.

God of peace, hear the cry of those who yearn for peace; in war zones and shattered states, worried, anxious, and frightened.

God of mercy, hear the cry of those who yearn for mercy; sentenced, in need of your grace, penitent, unassuming, bowed down.

Through you, holy One, may we welcome the silence, the space, the quiet of these forty days. Help us to know your love, your justice, and your peace with a world that has forgotten that peace is even possible.
