Prayer for Peace

O Eternal One,
In these brief moments, our thoughts are turned toward you. Again, we see you, not with the unsteady steps of a lost traveler but with the sure flight of a bird homeward bound.

Grant then that our thoughtful confidence in you be not a fugitive thought, a momentary leap, a mistaken appeasement of the heart and flesh. Grant, rather, that our aspirations— our desire of your compassionate presence, our hopes of your glory, be not unproductive birth pangs or clouds, but that from the fullness of our heart they will rise toward you, seeking your abiding peace.

May our aspirations, being heard by you, know the peace that quenches our thirst like the refreshing dew and satisfy us forever like your heavenly manna as you speak again, “Peace be with you” (John 2:19). And may we resolve, by your grace, to be peacemakers this day. For we pray this in the name of the prince of peace, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
