Prayer for Peace

Our gracious lord, we come before you now with bowed heads and uplifted hearts seeking a path to peace for the inhabitants of this Earth. We know that such a loving God must feel anguish over the massive violence and suffering that exists in the world today.

Everyone is precious to you, so we ask for insight and courage as we labor for peace, justice, mercy, and harmony in the lands across this planet. We pray for the victims of oppression and the hearts of the oppressor, the hungry as well as those who would exploit them, the ill, and all who are faced with hopelessness.

Sometimes the task of building peace is so overwhelming that we just want to give up. Help us to realize that we can’t do everything, but each person can do something. We have been told in the scriptures, “So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). It is our prayer that we heed this admonition for we know that true peace can be achieved only by trusting, loving, and helping one another. Give us the strength, wisdom, and vision to undertake those tasks that will further the cause of peace.
