Prayer for Peace

Loving God,

We sing the familiar words… “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” But, like in so many other ways, we fail to act. Our lack of action over time results in us being overwhelmed and discouraged by the challenge of being peacemakers in the world around us.

In reality, it is the little things that begin with us that truly make a difference. It begins with recognizing our need to spend time communicating with you and centering our thoughts on the kingdom of justice and peace that was modeled in Jesus’s ministry and teachings. It begins with being aware of and responsive to the needs of those around us. It begins with our participation in sacred community and better understanding the power of just a few dedicated witnesses to transform lives and change outcomes.

Inspire us, loving God, to more fully internalize your kingdom of justice and peace in our individual lives, in our congregations, and in the places where we are called to bear witness of its transformative power. May the familiar words “and let it begin with me” speak to us today and become a new beginning for discovering the joy that comes from sharing Your peace with others.
