Community of Christ has joined with more than 75 interfaith organizations in signing a statement marking 80 years since the first use of nuclear weapons. Coordinated by Soka Gakkai International, the statement affirms that, “Our spiritual traditions inform our perspectives: while humanity is capable of inflicting grave, even apocalyptic harm, humanity is also capable of collaborating in solidarity for life and well-being.”
Community of Christ has a long history of promoting peace and advocating for the reduction of nuclear weapons.

“Resolved, That we, as a church, through appropriate administrative representatives at every jurisdictional level (world, mission center, and congregation) shall inform the appropriate governmental officials of the need for responsible reduction and eventual elimination of nuclear armaments;”
World Conference Resolution 1303 Action toward Nuclear Weapons Abolition (2013)
“Resolved, That Community of Christ join the global voices seeking to halt nuclear weapons production, support prudent action to minimize the threat or use of nuclear weapons, and urge renewed efforts toward eradication; and be it further
Resolved, That wherever practical, Community of Christ convey its support for the responsible reduction and eventual eradication of nuclear weapons, urging policy to that end by all nations;”
