The topic of abortion has nearly a 50-year history within Community of Christ. The Standing High Council released its original statement in 1974 with a revision in 1998.
As the Supreme Court of the United States handed down its ruling on Roe vs. Wade, the church continues to “affirm that life is a gift from God and the stewardship of life is a sacred trust,” and to “affirm the right of the woman to make her own decision... .”
