Hurricane Melissa Update

1 December 2025

Based on information the Presiding Bishopric has received from local leaders, church members and church properties in Jamaica were affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Field Bishop Darwyn Copa reports:

As Field 2 (Brazil, Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Mexico-Texas, Northwest South America, Southern Cone of South America Mission Centers) have raised over $3,000.00 through special offerings to support our brothers and sisters in Jamaica with food and drinking water.

“During our recent conversations with our brothers and sisters in Jamaica, they have already begun some work on rebuilding the roofs of their homes and are having difficulty covering the cost of the zinc to cover the roof. While we are visiting with John Glaser, going to the places where our congregations are located and visiting the families of our members, and while we assess the material damage and the most urgent needs, we want to make available a certain amount of funds to alleviate the most pressing needs in repairing their homes, especially to buy some zinc to cover the roofs. This is an urgent need awaiting us.”

The Presiding Bishopric is sending $5000 USD as requested by local leaders to Jamaica for immediate relief and is continuing to monitor the situation.

Please keep the people of Jamaica in your prayers. If able, consider a donation to the Climate Impact Fund which provides relief in these situations.
