Community of Christ has endorsed the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative as an international faith community. This action is consistent with World Conference Resolution 1333, adopted June 5, 2025. The resolution states:
"That Community of Christ declare its support for a just and responsible Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.”
The Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative seeks to create a legally binding global treaty for a just transition away from fossil fuels—one that is fast, fair, and properly funded.
The initiative recognizes that fossil fuels are connected to energy security, economic justice, peace, and stability. A Fossil Fuel Treaty must therefore address these issues together and advance solutions that benefit all people.
Individuals may endorse the treaty. Congregations, mission centers, and other church-affiliated groups may also endorse it as civil society organizations.
