On 28 August, Community of Christ sent an initial donation of $5,000 USD to World Central Kitchen (WCK) in support of immediate relief efforts for devastating floods in Nepal. WCK is mobilizing quickly to serve hot meals to affected families and first responders in disaster zones. This contribution builds on a $10,000 USD donation made last week to support communities around the world affected by recent wildfires and earthquakes. These funds, totaling $15,000 USD, come from Oblation and the Climate Impact Fund.

We continue to monitor the situation in Nepal closely with our field apostle. Mission Center President Binod Adhikari reported via email that information is difficult to obtain due to disruptions in cell service and electricity, as well as the destruction of roads and bridges. Work to establish temporary shelter has begun, and efforts to contact more remote congregations and communities are ongoing. In his message, he shared, “Thank you all for standing with Nepal through your prayers, concern, encouragement, and love. Knowing that our brothers and sisters around the world are praying for Nepal gives us great strength and hope.”
