Retired member of the First Presidency, Alan Tyree, 92, died September 7. The First Presidency joins others in Community of Christ as we remember his life and years of ministry and leadership that touched lives around the world.
Alan Tyree served 42 years as an appointee minister in assignments that included eleven years as mission administrator in French Polynesia. He was called to the Council of Twelve Apostles in 1966 and served 16 years in apostolic ministry. In 1982, he was called to be a counselor to President Wallace B. Smith and to become a member of the First Presidency. He served as a member of the presidency until his retirement in 1992. In his retirement, Alan authored Millions Call It Scripture: The Book of Mormon in the 21st Century.
As a faith community, we celebrate the life, ministry, and service that Alan offered out of his love for the church and its mission. Let us also hold the Tyree family in the light and love of Christ’s peace.
