In May 2026, Adam Wade, a member of the Council of Twelve Apostles, was suspended after the First Presidency received concerns about actions dating back to October 2024. In accordance with the church’s procedures for priesthood matters, as set forth in two guiding documents—Priesthood Status Categories, and World Conference Resolution 1316 (Priesthood Release for Cause)—the First Presidency suspended Adam while an investigation was conducted. The investigation found no conduct that required reporting to legal authorities but determined that Adam’s actions were inconsistent with the church’s expectations of priesthood. Therefore, as of 24 September 2026 Adam has been released for cause from the Council of Twelve Apostles.

Adam has expressed deep and sincere remorse and a willingness to accept responsibility for his actions. With the support and guidance of the World Church, he is also pursuing reconciliation and restoration with those who have been affected. To protect the privacy and well-being of those involved, additional details will not be shared publicly. The family also asks that you respect their privacy at this time.

Adam has asked the First Presidency to consider his reinstatement to the Council of Twelve Apostles at some point in the future, after allowing time for professional counseling, pastoral care, accountability, discernment, and reconciliation.

The First Presidency is continuing to journey with Adam to determine when reinstatement to priesthood might be appropriate.

Matters relating to his employment are being managed through appropriate channels.
