2026 Community of Christ Peace Award Recipient
Community of Christ is honored to announce that renowned environmental justice advocate Bill McKibben will be the 2026 recipient of the Community of Christ Peace Award. The award will be presented at the Community of Christ Peace Forum, 16–18 October 2026, at the Community of Christ Temple in Independence, Missouri USA.
For decades, McKibben has been a leading voice for climate action. His groundbreaking book, The End of Nature, was the first for a general audience on climate change. Since then, he has authored 19 more books, taught as the Schumann Distinguished Scholar in Environmental Studies at Middlebury College, and received numerous honors, including the Gandhi Peace Prize.
McKibben co-founded 350.org, the first global grassroots climate campaign, and has been instrumental in the fight against oil pipelines and in advancing the fossil fuel divestment movement.
At the 2025 Community of Christ World Conference, the church committed to cultivating a new environmental justice consciousness, centering our work on the well-being of all creation. Bill McKibben’s lifelong dedication to peace for the planet embodies that call.
As an author, educator, and environmentalist, McKibben will offer insight into the urgent environmental issues of our time. Participants can expect to leave the 2026 Peace Forum inspired to take meaningful action for the Earth.
