Summary of Position

Community of Christ Central Congregation in the booming Omaha/Council Bluffs metro is looking to add a full time Youth/Young Adult Pastor. Community of Christ Central wants to make an impact on the growing population of our metro. We believe our Enduring Principles allow us to stand out and can help propel our faith movement and our faith community to become more meaningful to young adults, youth and their families. The pay range for this position is $45,000 to $65,000 depending on experience and qualifications. The compensation package will include health insurance and church contributions to a retirement fund.

Essential Functions

  1. Develop and lead regular Young Adult/Youth activities/group meetings
  2. Plan and be involved in special events such as retreats, camps, and community outreach and be actively engaged with other Mission Center Young Adults/Youth
  3. Provide pastoral care and guidance to young adults, youth and their families
  4. Teach youth/young adult classes
  5. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for youth programs
  6. Collaborate with other church members, leaders, church board and priesthood to create a vision for dynamic youth groups and help create meaningful worship experiences that would stand out to young adults.
  7. Work with the Lead Pastor to take risks!
  8. Create and manage the youth/young adult ministry budget
  9. Relentlessly communicate with young adults, youth and their parents to keep them informed about upcoming events and activities Develop outreach programs to engage unchurched youth and young adults in the community
  10. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all youth
  11. Encourage youth/young adult participation in church services and activities
  12. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make necessary adjustments

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to consistently take part in all Community of Christ Central Congregation worship experiences and other scheduled activities as well as key Mission Center events
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other church members, and priesthood
  • Proven leadership and organizational abilities
  • Creativity in planning and implementing programs and activities
  • Sensitivity to the diverse needs and backgrounds of youth/young adults
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the church
  • Personal faith and willingness to be open about your faith journey and testimony
  • Ability to mentor and build relationships with youth/young adults
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend activities
  • Great listening skills
  • Proficient in using technology and social media
  • Ability to pass a background check

Desired Competencies/Skills

  • Passion for being up to date on current demographic trends relating to faith and religion in the United States
  • Planning skills are needed, but the flexibility to turn quickly when a new opportunity to make an impact on young adults and youth suddenly appears

Required Trainings

Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
