Summary of Position

This position will provide ministry to young adults, primarily ages 18-35, throughout the Western Field (Greater Pacific Northwest USA Mission Center, Sierra Pacific USA Mission Center, Rocky Mountain USA Mission Center, Pacific Southwest International USA Mission Center, and Arizona USA Mission Center). This will include multiple events in each mission center throughout the year, as well as 1-2 field-wide events annually. Overnight travel required. Candidate encouraged to reside within the jurisdiction of the Greater Pacific Northwest USA Mission Center, primarily for payroll and benefits purposes. Residence within the Western Field is required.

Essential Functions

  1. Excels at teamwork for planning and providing ministries across multiple jurisdictional boundaries that are focused on supporting young adult disciple formation, community building and evangelism, including a focus on emerging opportunities with peace and justice ministries. 
  2. Willingness and ability to collaborate with World Church and mission center leadership providing, as well as receiving input regarding young adult ministries and outreach within gathered communities/congregations, new expressions (non-congregational groups), mission centers and the World Church. 
  3. Willing to learn and expand existing skills in using the growing options for multi-media platforms in disciple formation through gathered communities. 
  4. Supports ministry teams in planning and accomplishing goals that are creative, and open to the discovery of new ways to achieve goals for a specific project. 
  5. Committed to continual personal learning and development of self and others regarding disciple formation methods. 
  6. Willingness to learn about the demographics, interest areas, and spiritual desires of young adults, including exploring development in non-English-speaking communities. 
  7. Focus on nurturing relationships with young adult leaders wanting to engage in locally formed communities. 
  8. Knowledge and familiarity of Community of Christ identity, mission, message and beliefs (IMMB), administrative processes, and organizational structure. 
  9. Experience and willingness to teach, facilitate and provide public ministry. 
  10. Strong missionary spirit and zeal for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. 
  11. Comfortable with all age groups and willing to serve as a bridge minister across multiple demographics. 
  12. Community of Christ ordained minister (Melchisedec priesthood preferred).

Required Competencies/Skills

  • Candidate must have experience working with youth and young adults. 
  • Must be able to plan, organize, staff and travel to young adult events. 
  • Ability to work across cultural boundaries. 
  • Expertise in using a variety of social media platforms and website experience.

Desired Competencies/Skills

  • Experience at Spectacular and/or International Youth Forum preferred.

Required Trainings

Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
