Summary of Position

The Outreach Youth and Young Adult Minister will develop and further invitation-oriented children, youth, and young adult programs. They will be responsible for facilitating ministries that engage children, youth, and young adults in congregational and mission center life by developing disciples to serve. Twenty (20) hours per week will be dedicated to the Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA, congregation. Five (5) hours per week will be dedicated to mentoring youth program leaders in other congregations in the Headwaters USA Mission Center.

Essential Functions

  1. Nurtures new seekers and disciples through consistent, structured programming for children and youth (roughly ages 6 – 18) and young adults (roughly ages 18 – 35).
  2. Works with volunteer leaders to discern, define, and develop invitation-oriented ministries with and for children, youth, and young adults.
  3. Focuses on both existing members and outreach to new youth and young adults and be responsible for expanding both the number of active participants in the ministry areas and providing opportunities for them to deepen their discipleship in Community of Christ.
  4. Prioritizes meeting the spiritual and relational needs of children, youth, and young adults while modeling invitational ministry.
  5. Plans Apple Valley congregational activities such as retreats and regular (weekly or bi-monthly) youth and young adult groups.
  6. Develops a plan for outreach that is authentic to our understanding of mission (i.e. be relationship-driven rather than proselytizing).
  7. Leads coordination and works alongside congregational volunteers on all ministry and program aspects, including mentoring new leaders and identifying areas of growth.
  8. Under guidance from mission center leadership, works with 2 – 4 other Headwaters congregations to discern, design, and support establishment and growth of volunteer-driven local youth programs. Models best-practices, creativity, and sustainability by walking alongside emerging leaders.

Required Trainings

Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
