Summary of Position

Team lead for the Mission Center President and Justice & Peace Ministry Team for Kentucky – Indiana USA Mission Center, working together as the chief administrative, pastoral, and expansion officers of the church within the mission center. Entrusted with the care and direction of congregations, including appropriate support and oversight of leaders and properties. Focus on strengthening existing congregations and supporting their growth, while nurturing new expressions of mission. Work with individuals, small groups, existing congregations, and new ministries to support diversity and inclusion. Cultivate a culture of welcome and an awareness of social justice. Initiate actions to inform, encourage, and support spiritual growth through an awareness of all of God's creation.

Essential Functions

  1. Leads a team of volunteers to support participatory planning and establish mission center priorities aligned with Community of Christ's Mission Initiatives, Basic Beliefs, and Enduring Principles (IMMB).

  2. Oversees the administration of World Church policies and procedures.

  3. Supports new expressions of mission that respond to changing contexts and creates opportunities to birth, nurture, and multiply communities of disciples and seekers.

  4. Works with a team to support local justice and peace initiatives in congregations, groups, and with individuals. This may include developing resources for worship and education.

  5. Creates and shares information about equity, peace, and justice. This may include updating best practices for creating inclusive content for social media, websites, and formal correspondence.

  6. Builds relationships within the mission center to inspire engagement in peace and justice initiatives. This may include organizing community events that uphold the worth of all persons and promote peace through inclusion.

  7. Promotes inclusion in mission center worship, family camps, youth camps, conferences, and planning and leadership teams. Effectively communicates Community of Christ's Mission Initiatives and Enduring Principles.

  8. Networks with other mission centers and local and national organizations that advocate for the worth of all persons. Builds partnerships and leverages shared assets to increase outreach.

  9. Partners with World Church teams to develop and share resources and to advocate for just peace on and for the Earth.

  10. Local travel is required, with occasional overnight stays, to engage with congregations and partners.

Required Trainings

Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
