Summary of Position
Chihowa is seeking a lifeguard to work as needed for summer camps. The number of hours will vary based on the needs of rental groups each week. Coverage is needed for the pool during swimming hours and at the lake when people are out in boats or on the dock. The hours will vary each day and week from Memorial Day to Labor Day, depending on the needs of the camp.
Essential Functions
- Lifeguards patrons at the Chihowa swimming pool and waterfront; provides rescue, first aid, and/or emergency care until EMS arrives, if needed.
- Demonstrates a professional and courteous attitude towards all Chihowa guests.
- Arrives for each lifeguard shift in uniform and rescue ready.
- Coordinates care of pool with the Resident Manager.
- Ensures that all patrons are following safety guidelines/rules for swimming pool, waterfront, and boating activities.
- Maintains a clean pool area – deck and water should be free of debris, pool changing rooms/restrooms should be clean and stocked, all equipment in good working order.
- Takes inventory of pool and waterfront equipment. Notifies the Resident Manager of any repairs/replacements needed. Inventory to include lifejackets, paddles, etc.
- Ensures that boating equipment is stored correctly and locked when not in use.
- Provides excellent customer service as one of Chihowa’s on-site liaisons to guests.
- Possesses respect for others, punctuality, cleanliness, appropriate clothing, ownership in camp properties, etc.
- If necessary, submits incident/accident reports on time.
- Reports to Resident Manager any guest, volunteer, or site problems that you are not able to resolve on your own as soon as possible
- Instructs guests in emergency procedures such as severe weather warnings.

Desired Competencies/Skills
- Knowledge of pool chemicals.
- Water safety instructor certification.
- Open water / waterfront lifeguard certification.

Required Trainings
Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
