Summary of Position

Chihowa Retreat Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to oversee and manage the operations of our beautiful outdoor retreat space. This is a full-time, on-site position that includes housing and benefits. The ideal candidate will be passionate about outdoor hospitality, facilities management, and community engagement. The Retreat Center Director will ensure an exceptional guest experience while maintaining and improving the campground’s facilities.

Essential Functions

  1. Operations and Facilities Management 
  2. Perform maintenance, safety, and upkeep of all campground facilities, including cabins, trails, common areas, and recreational spaces
  3. Oversee projects 
  4. Manage utility systems, including water, septic, and electrical operations
  5. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding campground safety and environmental impact
  6. Guest and Community Relations 
  7. Serve as the primary point of contact for guests, campers, and rental groups
  8. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors
  9. Develop and maintain strong relationships with local organizations, faith groups, and community partners
  10. Work collaboratively with local groups to promote and expand the campground’s use. Additionally, assist the Board with developing and/or refining marketing resources, create marketing resources and promote the Chihowa Retreat Center 
  11. Be available during client events and programs to ensure safe facility use and resolve problems
  12. Be present for client check-in and check-out
  13. Staff & Volunteer Coordination:  *recruit, train, and oversee seasonal staff, contractors, and volunteers. *manage schedules and assignments to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
  14. Financial Oversight & Administration:  *provide support and input for the annual budget in coordination with the Chihowa Retreat Center Board  *submit expense reports, receipts, and time sheets promptly
  15. Oversee booking, contracts, and agreements for facility rentals and programs
  16. Other duties as assigned

Required Competencies/Skills

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities efficiently
  • Experience with facilities maintenance, outdoor recreation, or property management
  • Mechanical skills, including HVAC maintenance and repair
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment such as tractors, mowers, and other landscaping tools
  • Experience in skilled trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.) 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial management, and operational oversight

Desired Competencies/Skills

  1. Website management and basic IT proficiency
  2. Experience overseeing lake, lagoon, and pool operations
  3. Completion of wastewater operator training
  4. Lifeguard certification or water safety expertise
  5. Team leadership and employee management experience
  6. Forestry management and land stewardship knowledge

Required Trainings

Registered Youth Worker/Anti-harassment Training: New employees are required to be a registered youth worker with Community of Christ or be able to register within 30 days of hire date. Anti-harassment training is also required within 30 days of hire and then required annually.
