Venture Forth

10 September 2024

Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?

James 2:5

“In Nature’s Voice We Hear You, Lord,” by Mildred Jordan, Community of Christ Sings 368

In nature’s voice we hear you, Lord,
in rushing streams, we hear you speak;
in rumbling clouds, in gentle rain,
and in the tow’ring mountain peaks.

In homes so rich or homes so poor,
the city large, the village small—
wherever there is human need
we hear your voice call out to all.

Your voice we hear and answer, Lord;
we’ll venture forth to meet this need
with hand and heart and mind inspired
in thought and word and daily deed.

New skills we’ll learn, new arts we’ll gain
to help all persons know their worth;
with purpose strong, with faith renewed
to build your kingdom here on earth.

Prayer Phrase

“Love your neighbor as yourself” (Romans 13:9).

Spiritual Practice

Healing for Broken Spirits

Begin with quiet prayer. Ask God to help you detect some “sore places” in the body of Christ and God’s creation. Become aware of people who feel separated, wounded, or left out. Reflect on or write a short journal entry of healing words to at least one person who comes to mind. Ask God for words that will touch this person’s broken spirit like healing ointment. Keep this person in your heart and prayers today and act on any ideas that come to bring blessing and wholeness.
