Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream.

Jeremiah 17:7–8a

I invite you to try a life committed to neighboring with God.

  • Surrender being the world’s champion of anything.
  • Seek love rather than praise. Remember not to confuse them.
  • Seek peace rather than safety.
  • Seek gratitude rather than righteousness.

For though we live in a temporal world that is fraught with danger, we are loved. We may trust that God’s goals are for humankind’s joy and salvation.

How do we become trusting?

  • Listen to the life stories of those who have committed to “Not my will, but God’s will.”
  • Our lifelong call is to trust God is good, and all that God creates is good.
  • Each day return to awareness of God.

How do we trust?

  • We allow mystery. Mystery is the essence of faith, the vastness of that which we cannot know, only believe. The belief becomes our worldview; we act from that belief.
  • We choose what we believe! That choice leads to change. We act as if, and then the evidence appears.
  • We choose to be grateful. Gratitude leads to humility.
  • We choose to be kind. The choice leads to patience.
  • We choose to believe in God’s abundance. The choice leads to peace.
  • We choose to live in constant conversation with God. That choice leads to love, in the service of God.

Prayer Phrase

Lord, give me eyes that see clearly, hands that reach out, a heart full of your love, and feet that will follow anywhere you lead.

Spiritual Practice

Connecting with God as Center

Connect with God through journal writing or contemplation. Open yourself to God’s presence and share what flows from your heart and mind. Your “communication with God” might include thoughts, questions, feelings, needs, artwork, quotes, or scriptures. Or it might take the form of a prayer, psalm, or poem.

What do you experience? Is this an effective way to connect with God? What surprises you? How do you feel God’s love? What deepens or changes in your relationship with God, Christ, Spirit?
