He said, “I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

Chantal’s journey is a testament to resilience and faith. Born in Burundi, she moved to Germany at the age of six with her mother, who was a refugee. Growing up in a new country, Chantal faced the challenges of adapting to a different culture and language. Despite these obstacles, she found solace in her faith and the supportive community around her.
Chantal’s story highlights the importance of community and faith in the refugee journey. She remembers her mother’s strong belief in God and how it shaped her own faith. “My mom was a strong, believing woman,” Chantal shared. “She taught me all the songs and told me stories about God.” This foundation of faith helped Chantal navigate the complexities of her new life in a new land.
As we journey with refugees during the Lenten season, Chantal’s story reminds us of many Enduring Principles of Community of Christ: the Worth of All Persons, Blessings of Community, and the Pursuit of Peace. Her experience underscores the need for compassion and understanding as we support those who have been displaced from their homes.
