Lift up your eyes and fix them on the place beyond the horizon to which you are sent. Journey in trust, assured that the great and marvelous work is for this time and for all time.
(September 3, 1962, Daily Bread)
It has been suggested we give something each day of our lives in time, money, service, or deep concern for others.
In eastern Nebraska there are two sand pits which are frequently visited by [children] of the neighborhood. One of the pits has no inflow of water and is fed by seepage alone. Consequently, there is no overflow, and without motion or current the water stands cloudy, sluggish, and moss filled. The other pit, however, fed by a lively, sparkling spring, is clean, clear, deep, and refreshing. The constant motion and change of water make it a delightful spot. The overflow brings life and freshness to the vegetation nearby.
It is increasingly difficult in today’s world to keep our minds and hearts so full of the goodness of God that there will be a constant overflow to those about us. Yet we have all known people whose faith is a radiant, vibrant thing. Even in short conversations and contacts we have definitely been ministered to.
Through reading, study, and meditation we gain a freshness of spirit that will naturally overflow into the lives of our associates. Thus the inflow and outflow of the Holy Spirit in our lives will cleanse our hearts and make us a blessing to others.
Prayer Phrase
“…do good and share what you have” (Hebrews 13:16).
Enough and to Spare
Take three slow, deep breaths. As you inhale, silently say, “There is enough.” As you exhale, say, “And more to share.” Then name aloud or write down three ways you already experience God’s generosity in your life—big or small. End by asking, “How can I share from what I’ve been given today?”
