One Sunny Day

1 April 2026

By Vera Entwistle of Tarneit West, Victoria, Australia

Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

Psalm 46:10–11

I was invited to lead a group sing-along at a nursing home. Despite my years of leading campfires, I approached the day with anxiety. I wondered if the elderly residents would respond.

I need not have worried. They sang their hearts out.

One elderly woman waited for me in the corridor. As I was leaving, she took my arm and asked, “Do you know the song ‘We’ll Meet Again’?”

I knelt by her wheelchair, held her hands and sang the song as tears ran down her face. She told me she and her husband had sung that song to each other the day he left for the war. He never returned.

She said that in times of loneliness and grief, she had sung the song to reassure herself a reunion would come. Now she was 90 and was afraid she was beginning to forget the lyrics. But she knew their reunion would come soon.

Kneeling in the corridor, I was able to bear my personal testimony to her of a loving God who waits to greet us: a God whose kindness shall never depart. “We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when…but I know we’ll meet again some sunny day.”

Prayer Phrase

“See, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5).

Weaving a Life

Hold, or imagine yourself holding, a piece of patterned cloth. Examine it carefully. Notice overlapping threads, mingling colors that form the design. Write a journal entry or meditate about the threads and patterns of your life. What design do you see? How does the life pattern you are weaving create justice and wholeness in God’s world? What new pattern is God calling you to weave?
