By Danny A. Belrose
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
“Hope’s Song,” Choose Hope: Adult Study Guide, Herald House, pp. 29–30
In every breath of spring, new life is begun.
In every drop of rain, there shines a thousand suns
In every starless night, there’s promise of the dawn.
In sunshine and in storm—hope still sings its song.
Its melody plays on, birthed beyond your tongue
in every step you take, in promises you make.
It breathes, it lives, it finds its way
in simple acts of love each day
—a card, a note, a helping hand,
a listening ear, a newfound friend,
Every soul has cracks within where joy and love and peace
seep in, where light abounds and faith contends,
assuring darkness never wins
and hope’s sweet song is sung again.
Prayer Phrase
“Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; persevere in prayer” (Romans 12:12).
Deepening Roots
A tree with superficial roots will wither during drought, or severe storms may uproot it. A tree whose roots go deep is stable and draws from deep waters. Imagine yourself as a tree by a river or stream. Sense your roots extending deep into the earth in search of God’s Spirit. Reflect or pray about what you hope to find as your spirit searches for deeper identity in God.
