Living Generously for the Flourishing of All Creation

20 October 2025

By Ron Harmon, Presiding Bishop

There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

Acts 4:34–35

Our Enduring Principle Grace and Generosity continues to point the way forward: “God gives freely and abundantly. God’s grace, especially as revealed in Jesus Christ, is generous beyond measure.” We are invited to imitate this generosity, not as transactional but transformational in how we choose to live and share together, creating a better world for all. To live generously is to trust there will be enough, and that we are enough as we respond in love with the totality of our lives!

Creative Abundance defies the norm of scarcity that constrains vision and compassion. Scarcity tells us to close borders, build walls, and look out only for ourselves. Abundance acknowledges that we are interconnected. Abundance opens us to new possibilities. It invites us to see resources—material and spiritual—as gifts to be multiplied, not hoarded. In every context, especially those places where the vision of Zion—where there are no poor, no oppressed—is not yet realized, we are called to creative, courageous acts of generosity. We are called to imagine new pathways, to forge new partnerships, and to inspire one another to share boldly for the welfare of all. With every act of generosity, we prophetically resist the world as it is and pursue the world as it could be.

Our vision of Zion is a vision of shalom, justice, and mutual flourishing. It is a new community where everyone has enough, and no one is left out or left behind. In our time, the missional imperative could not be clearer: embody creative abundance. Open your heart wide to a world in need. Give freely, imagine boldly, and join together—across differences, beyond fear—in creating communities that overflow with grace and generosity.

Prayer Phrase

“…share abundantly in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).

From Scarcity to Abundance

Take a deep breath and release your fear of “not enough.” Name one place of scarcity in your life, then name one way you already see abundance. Offer a simple prayer of gratitude: “God, open my eyes to your abundance.”
