Grow in Faith

7 June 2026

By Carrie Welch, Council of Twelve Apostles

Hoping against hope, he believed that he would become “the father of many nations,” according to what was said, “So shall your descendants be.” He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was already as good as dead (for he was about a hundred years old), and the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, being fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.

Romans 4:18–21

Several years ago, I committed to train for a half marathon, a race which required walking 13.1 miles to the finish line. I spent months increasing the distance I walked, preparing for the event. As the day of the race got closer, I had faith that my body could complete the task. But I learned that if you did not complete the race in the allotted time, the organizers would send a bus to collect those who had fallen behind. On the day of the race, I tried to balance my adrenalin with my fear, and my mantra became to simply “beat the bus!”

I was encouraged by the large community of supporters cheering us on from the sidelines. But as I hit mile seven, my hope waned and like Abraham in our scripture, I lamented that my body felt nearly a hundred years old, and I looked to God for reassurance. Just as Abraham did not waver in his faith despite the physical impossibilities, I too found strength in my faith. I remembered that God’s promises are steadfast, and that God will fulfill what was promised.

This is true regardless of whether I crossed the finish line on the bus or by foot. This reminder renewed my determination and I pressed on, finding strength in God’s promise to carry me through as I crossed the finish line.

Prayer Phrase

“And all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

Abundant Blessings

At the close of the day, reflect on where you noticed God’s blessings, especially in unexpected places. Offer a prayer of thanks and try to release any worry, trusting that God’s abundance will meet you again tomorrow.
