I am writing to share a deeply emotional and unforgettable experience that occurred during my ministry, which continues to impact me to this day.
On June 27, 2020, in the Kommuchikkala congregation, a tragic incident took place involving a faithful family in our church. Sister Usha Gowthami Yarakaraju, a baptized member, and her husband, Brother Peddi Raju, had one beloved daughter named Jyothi Sri, aged 17. The family was blessed by God and had recently moved into a newly built home. Jyothi Sri was an active and regular Sunday School student, known for her sincerity and dedication.
Unfortunately, late one night, Jyothi woke up and, in a sleepy state, went to use the restroom. In the process, she accidentally slipped and fell from the upstairs area of their home. She was rushed to the hospital, and I, along with Brother T.D. Raju and Brother Syamal, visited her there. Despite medical care and our prayers, she tragically passed away after two days.
This incident came as a tremendous shock to the family and the entire congregation. Sister Usha Gowthami was particularly affected, both emotionally and mentally. She was unable to attend church for nearly a year due to the overwhelming grief. During this time, I made frequent visits to their home to offer comfort and encouragement through the Word of God. By the grace of God and the comfort of the Holy Spirit, she gradually regained her strength and eventually returned to regular church services. Her return brought great joy to all of us.
Today, she faithfully serves as the congregational financial officer and actively participates in church activities.
This experience stands out as one of the greatest challenges and learning moments in my ministry. It taught me the power of pastoral care, the depth of human grief, and the strength that comes through faith and the support of the church community. I remain deeply moved by how God restored Sister Usha and her family and allowed us to witness God’s healing hand at work.

The International Community
Find (or imagine) a globe or map of the world. Look at all the nations and find a country other than your own. Notice the geographic distance between your homeland and this one. Picture a person living there. Pray for this person. Sense God’s love connecting you just as the oceans connect the continents. Thank God for the spiritual connection you have with all of God’s people around the globe. Ask a blessing on the church as a community sharing Christ’s peace, drawing all into the family of God.
