For I the Lord love justice, I hate robbery and wrongdoing; I will faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. Their descendants shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge that they are a people whom the Lord has blessed.

Isaiah 61:8–11

I have been a member of Community of Christ since 2018, when I was 17. I was living far away from the church. Whenever I would come for a weekend to visit my grandmother, I would visit the church. As a child and youth, I was part of the Pentecostal church. It was very loud and noisy. When I would come to Community of Christ, I might fall asleep! It was so very different and quiet. But I moved to my grandmother’s house when I was 17, and then I was finally attending Community of Christ regularly. I became adjusted to the church.

It was within Community of Christ that I got the confidence to speak and to read the Bible. The pastor was always involving me. In Community of Christ, people would say to me, “You can come and do this. Can you do this reading? I know you can do this! Can you sing? I know you can sing! Come, come and do it!”

I think Community of Christ is home. This is where people see me and value me. I am important and included.

In Community of Christ, everybody is equal. If there is a program where they distribute food, everyone gets the same amount.

In 2019, I was baptized. I became a full member. I started to contribute what I could. I tell my friends about Community of Christ, and they ask what kind of church is that? It is not a special group; it is for everyone! When I invite them, they come to the church!

They ask if it is Latter Day Saints. Is there a certain kind of prayer? I say no. Most of my friends have joined the church. They notice we don’t have any discrimination. They see that we are living in a community where all are called and valued.

Prayer Phrase

“Let us work for the good of all” (Galatians 6:10).

Spiritual Hunger

Jesus discerned hungers of body and spirit, and he fed them through a physical, verbal, spiritual ministry of presence. In a time of listening prayer, ask God to help you discern physical or spiritual hungers of people in your congregation, community, and global family. Invite the Spirit to move you to one hospitable act that “feeds” someone’s hunger today.
