By Sabina of San Pedro Sula, Honduras
But each of us was given grace according to the measure of Christ’s gift. We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.

In 2020, Honduras faced two major challenges as a nation: the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating impact of Hurricanes Eta and Iota. These events deeply marked the country, leaving both material and emotional scars on the population. However, amid these crises, acts of faith, solidarity, and divine providence were also manifested.
The congregation in San Pedro Sula was one of the few that did not suffer direct damage from the hurricanes. While many communities faced flooding, material losses, and displacement, this congregation remained standing, which was interpreted as a clear sign of God’s purpose for them.
Thanks to this stability, the congregation was able to become a pillar of support for other affected churches in different regions of the country. The global church also mobilized generously, providing financial and spiritual aid to Honduras, and during the pandemic, to the entire apostolic field, demonstrating the unity of the body of Christ in times of need. This aid came from the Oblation Fund, thanks to the contributions that many members and families make to World Ministries.
During this time, God’s faithfulness was evident. Despite the risk of contagion, several members of the congregation who were in charge of coordinating food purchases and deliveries remained protected. God cared for them, allowing aid to reach those most in need without major setbacks.
This testimony not only reflects divine goodness and protection, but also the active role a congregation can play when it responds to the call to serve. In the midst of the crisis, the church of San Pedro Sula became an instrument of blessing, fulfilling the mandate to love and help one’s neighbor.
Prayer Phrase
“For in him all things…were created…” (Colossians 1:16).
The International Community
Find (or imagine) a globe or map of the world. Look at all the nations and find a country other than your own. Notice the geographic distance between your homeland and this one. Picture a person living there. Pray for this person. Sense God’s love connecting you just as the oceans connect the continents. Thank God for the spiritual connection you have with all of God’s people around the globe. Ask a blessing on the church as a community sharing Christ’s peace, drawing all into the family of God.
