So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
“Joseph, Kind Joseph,” Community of Christ Sings 414
Jesus, dear Jesus, look out at the hillside;
See how the night is made bright by your star.
Only the faithful will follow its guiding;
Only the wise see the Light that you are.
Angels in chorus sing glad hallelujahs;
Hills echo back the good news of the birth.
Bethlehem sleeps but all heaven rejoices;
God’s gift of infinite love blesses earth.
Prayer Phrase
“I bring you good news that will cause great joy” (Luke 2:10).
Kindling the Light
Choose a quiet spot where you can sit comfortably. Place a candle or small light in front of you. Take a few slow breaths, letting the noise of the day settle. Light the candle. As you strike the match or switch on the light, say softly:
“I make room for joy to grow within me.
I make room for the light that connects me to others.
I make room for the Spirit of Christ.”
Pause for a few breaths, letting the glow of the light fill your awareness.
