The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.
[From Pathway to Abundant Generosity: An Invitation to a 14-Day Spiritual Journey Toward God’s Abundant Generosity, Herald House, p. 11]
No expression of generosity is as complete or astounding as the life of Christ. Abundant generosity is defined solely by Christ. He embodies, teaches, and is the spirit of generosity. To seek an understanding of generosity is to see Jesus. To love and follow Christ is to love and follow a life of increasing generosity. To give as he gives is the most natural act of all when God abides in us.
A life directed by the mind and heart of Christ is freed to share. A life of a disciple of generosity is always the life of a servant. A life of generosity is not just about giving more; it is about being more.
Prayer Phrase
“For everything created by God is good” (1 Timothy 4:4).
Spiritual Practice
Joy of Gratitude
Stand, if possible, with arms outstretched. Imagine God filling your arms with all that you have: family, friends, and possessions. Hold out your arms until they feel tired. Now, bring your arms across your body. Place your hand over your heart and thank God for the abundance that fills your life. Sit for a time aware of that abundance. Then ask God to help you open your heart in gratitude and share freely with others.
