God, the Eternal Creator, weeps for the poor, displaces, mistreated, and diseased of the world because of their unnecessary suffering. Such conditions are not God’s will. Open your ears to hear the pleading of mothers and fathers in all nations who desperately seek a future of hope for their children. Do not turn away from them. For in their welfare resides your welfare.

The Prodigal Son
The parable of the Prodigal Son reminds us of God’s unconditional love and radical acceptance. We are reminded that in the story, the parent goes running to the border of the town to welcome his child home with open arms. Imagine what the world could look like if refugees were met at the borders with open arms, peaceful humanity embracing them with compassion and hospitality. By welcoming the refugee into our communities, we affirm their worth and share in creating a home away from home, embodying the love and grace that God extends to all.
Prayer Phrase
“Love does no wrong to a neighbor…” (Romans 13:10).
Spiritual Practice
Reflection
Starting over in a new country can be daunting, especially when faced with cultural differences, language barriers, and employment challenges. Reflect on the resilience and determination required to rebuild one’s life in a foreign land. Consider the importance of support systems, such as community organizations and mentors, in helping refugees navigate their new environment. Reflect on the role of empathy and understanding in providing meaningful support to those starting over. Think about how we can extend a helping hand to refugees and create opportunities for them to thrive.
