Creative Abundance: A Transformative Way of Living

11 September 2025

God’s vision for creation is one of abundance – life overflowing with possibility, generosity, and care for all. Yet in some parts of the world there is not enough, a painful reality reminding us how far we are from fully living into that vision. Too often, resources are not shared in ways that bring wellbeing to every community. The concept of Creative Abundance invites us to imagine and enact a radically different, abundant future for all. This means living simply, sharing what we have, and choosing to participate in the ongoing flow of God’s goodness in the world.

Our worldview shapes our actions. When we look through the lens of abundance, we join God as co-creators, finding new ways to share, uplift others, and bring hope to places that once were empty.

Scripture shows that people have always struggled with scarcity thinking. Even when God provided enough in the wilderness, people wanted more or something different. The Apostle Paul reminded the Corinthians that God is able to bless us abundantly so we have all we need to do good (2 Corinthians 9:8). Recent inspired counsel also calls us to generosity, building relationships that reflect Christ’s love, justice, and peace (see Doctrine and Covenants 163:9-10, 165:2).

Creative Abundance invites us to treat both material and spiritual resources as gifts to be shared and multiplied, not hoarded.

These sacred texts teach that abundance is not just about our possessions, but about how we creatively use all that we have—our time, talents, resources, and stories—for the good of all. The Enduring Principle, Grace and Generosity, says, “God gives freely and abundantly. God’s grace, especially as revealed in Jesus Christ, is generous beyond measure.” We are invited to imitate this generosity, not as a transaction, but as a transformation—changing how we live and share, creating a better world for everyone.

To live generously is to trust that there will be enough, and that we are enough when we respond in love with our whole lives. Creative Abundance challenges the scarcity mindset that limits compassion and vision. When we feel there isn’t enough, we become anxious and withdraw. But when we realize there’s enough, we are more open and willing to connect with others. Creative Abundance invites us to treat both material and spiritual resources as gifts to be shared and multiplied, not hoarded.

Especially where the vision of Zion—a place with no poor or oppressed—is not yet realized, we are called to creative, courageous generosity. This means imagining new solutions, building new partnerships, and inspiring each other to share boldly for the good of all. Every act of generosity helps move us from the world as it is toward the world as it could be.

The vision of Zion is one of peace, justice, and shared flourishing—a new community where everyone has enough and no one is left out. Today, our mission is clear: embody creative abundance. Open your heart to the needs of the world, give freely, imagine boldly, and work together—across differences and beyond fear—to create communities overflowing with grace and generosity.
