Welcome to Community of Christ
International Headquarters.
The Auditorium and Temple, in Independence, Missouri (USA), are on part
of a sixty-three acre purchase made by church leaders in 1831 in
anticipation of a temple.
The Temple is dedicated to the pursuit of peace, reconciliation, and
healing of the spirit. Its architecture was inspired by the spiral of the
nautilus shell and is a design familiar to all cultures.

Approaching the Temple from the east, we see a cross on the
sanctuary exterior, marking the Temple as a place dedicated to Christ, the
Prince of Peace. From the distance, the figure at the center resembles a
descending dove, while a closer look reveals it to be a trio of olive
branches--both emblems of peace.

The lower Reception Hall welcomes visitors to the Temple from the main
entrance on the east side.
 |
| The cross hanging on the outer wall of the Meditation Chapel in the
foyer is made up of 360 pieces of wood donated by members from around the
world.
 |
The Meditation Chapel is an octagonal space designed for small group
worship, personal meditation, and prayer. Eight oil paintings depict the
sacraments of the church in different cultures, signifying the international
nature of the church. These sacraments are baptism by immersion,
confirmation, the Lord's Supper, marriage, baby blessing, administration for
the sick, Evangelist's blessing, and ordination.
 |
| The chapel looks out on a tranquil meditation garden donated by members
and friends of the church in Japan.

|
The garden is surrounded by glass walls, permitting those inside the
Temple's halls to also share its tranquility
