Living Beyond Scarcity

11 November 2025

And, behold, this is the way, that I, the Lord, have decreed to provide for my saints; that the poor shall be exalted, in that, the rich are made low; for the earth is full, and there is Enough and to Spare…

Doctrine and Covenants 2e–f

[Excerpted from “Living in the Flow of Grace: Embracing Creative Abundance,” https://cofchrist.org/generosity-cycle/]

This is the fifth communal and individual reflection from the Generosity Cycle resource titled “Living in the Flow of Grace: Embracing Creative Abundance.”

Living Beyond Scarcity

Focus: There is enough and to spare if we share.

Message Focus: God’s abundance isn’t about excess but about sufficiency for all. A scarcity mindset limits compassion and vision. Abundance resists fear and embraces possibility.

Spiritual Practice: Gratitude walk—walk while naming things you are thankful for.

Discussion Prompts

  • Where do you notice scarcity thinking—in your life, in church, or society?
  • How can we shift our mindset and behaviors to reflect God’s abundance?
  • How does scarcity thinking affect our ability to imagine a just and generous world?

Individual Reflections/Activity

  • Reflect: Where in your life do you live from a place of scarcity rather than abundance?
  • Journal: What situations or circumstances cause you to react from a place of fear instead of a place of abundant love and grace?
  • Activity: Clean out a space and donate items you no longer need—practice releasing with joy.

Prayer Phrase

“…do good and share what you have” (Hebrews 13:16).

Enough and to Spare

Take three slow, deep breaths. As you inhale, silently say, “There is enough.” As you exhale, say, “And more to share.” Then name aloud or write down three ways you already experience God’s generosity in your life—big or small. End by asking, “How can I share from what I’ve been given today?”
