An estimated total of $9.9 million was contributed in World
Ministries Mission Tithes in fiscal year 2009, which ended June 30. The
budget for the fiscal year was $10.5 million. Income from tithing was about
5% under what was needed to balance the budget.
Because of the effect of the challenging global economic climate on the
church’s investments and contributors:
The FY 2010 budget was reduced by $4 million. We are counting on receiving $9.8 million in World Ministries Mission Tithes.
We have begun experiencing decreases in staffing, ministries, and support services.
How will we respond?
The steady support of ongoing contributors to Local and World Ministries has
been encouraging. What we need now in order to pursue our mission throughout
the world is:
An increase in the number of people who are committed to consistent generous giving.
Disciples who challenge themselves to respond to God’s
grace by giving to their true, and growing, capacity.

*Due to manual reporting by some jurisdictions, actual income will take
several months to finalize. If you have a question about this update, please
contact the Presiding Bishopric at
presidingbishopric@CofChrist.org or 1001 W. Walnut, Independence, MO

Disciples generally make contributions to the church during worship services by using Mission Tithes offering envelopes. Sharing equally with both Congregation Ministries and World Ministries will help "meet the needs of a growing church." —Doctrine and Covenants 154:5
