Font to use with the nameplate graphics
We've been asking people to use a complementary font but not one that
actually resembles the nameplate. Part of that reasoning is to maintain the
visual power of the nameplate. If we started using a similar font, the impact of
the nameplate would diminish and might get lost in the headings.
One of the fonts we use on the CofChrist.org page is
Arial or ArialBold. Feel free to use a font that you feel compliments the
nameplate without competing with it. If you have any other questions regarding
the web, send your e-mail to the Webteam.

Links to other church Web sites

To use pictures, text and/or music from the Community of Christ site, please
contact
the Webteam.
All content (including but not limited to pictures, music, news
stories, articles, and hymn lyrics) used on the site must either be in the
public domain or permission must have been granted for their use.
If a service is being live streamed, the music that is
performed is considered part of the worship service. It is necessary to
have copyright permission for music under copyright; if you have questions about
how to locate the copyright holder, please contact
Legal Services (1-800-825-2806, ext.
2220).
When a service is archived (saved) for allowing viewers to
see it at their leisure, the archiving is counted the same as if you are
“reprinting” it, and that is illegal unless you have permission for each
copyright piece. If the congregation is singing music in the public domain,
archiving is not a problem.
If the song has a copyright notice at the bottom, you need to obtain
permission from the copyright holder before archiving it. Generally material
that has been published more than 95 years ago is safe, but if you have any
questions, please contact
Legal Services.
Copyright applies to all music—hymns, prelude,
postlude, offertory, ministry of music—as well as poetry recited or stories
read. Permission must be received for this material to be archived.
Unless you have someone who is willing to take the time to
act as “copyright officer” for the congregation, the safest course is to edit
out any copyright-covered material. You might want to use a statement similar to
“The congregation sang hymn #__ but due to copyright restrictions, the
presentation of this hymn is not permitted.” This is especially important if you
are posting a PDF of your order of worship.
For hymns that bear the copyright of Herald House or Community of Christ,
copyright permission can easily be granted by contacting
Legal Services.

A photo release should be granted by any
individual whose picture appears on your website.

for adults
If your service is being videotaped,
congregation members need to be notified so they are not surprised to see their
images online. A periodic bulletin insert similar to
this will provide permission for use.
If a congregational photograph is taken, a
photo release is not required from each person, but notifying congregation
members that the image is online will give them an opportunity to have the image
modified if they have a concern.

Policies for linked Web sites
The online World Church Directory has links to fields, mission centers,
congregations, and/or groups of the church.
Use of the Community of Christ nameplate must be consistent with the style
guide found at
http://cofchrist.org/graphics/nameplatestyle.asp. All elements of the Web
site must comply with communication policies of the World Church.
Policy prohibits linking to Web sites with advertiser-based Web hosts. Many
free Web site hosting services require advertisements to appear on sites they
host. Because this may imply endorsement, World Church policy prohibits linking
to jurisdictional sites with commercial advertising.

It is important to protect people’s
privacy.
Do not include the names of children 13
years old or younger.
Avoid first and last name combinations if
at all possible, and remember that people can piece together bits of information
from news, photos, announcements, bulletins, and other online material to put
together the complete identity of a person.
If posting an online prayer list, either
make it password protected and only available to congregation members, or list
only first names and a generic prayer concern.

Web accessibility
Do not forget that there are individuals
in your congregation who are dealing with various accessibility issues. While
the Web provides a means of involving them in the life of the congregation,
there are issues that need to be dealt with.
This site provides guidelines and help.
