DAVID D. SCHAAL
David D. Schaal is a member of the Council of Twelve Apostles, the leading
missionary quorum of the Community of Christ. He was ordained an apostle in
April 2002 and assigned to the Central/Southwest USA Mission Field, which
includes Central USA Mission Center, Central Missouri USA Mission Center,
Coastal Bend USA Mission Center, Far West USA Mission Center, Heart of Texas USA
Mission Center, Midlands USA Mission Center, Oklahoma USA Mission Center, Rio
Grande USA Mission Center, and South Central States USA Mission Center. He also
has responsibilities in Youth Ministries for Spectacular and the International
Youth Forum.
Dave has been a full-time appointee minister since 1984. His previous
assignments include serving as president of the Tri Stake Mission Center, pastor
at Stone Church congregation, president of the Michigan Region, president of the
Omaha-Council Bluffs Stake, pastor of the Council Bluffs Central congregation,
Omaha-Council Bluffs Stake missionary director, and Advanced Leadership Studies.
Prior to World Church appointment, Dave served as the full-time pastor of the
Santa Cruz congregation in Santa Cruz, California.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, he graduated from Tucker, Georgia High School
in 1976. He earned a B.A. degree in social studies from Graceland College,
Lamoni, Iowa, in 1980 and an M.A. degree in religion from Park College,
Parkville, Missouri, in 1985.
His church responsibilities have included serving as pastor, stake missionary
director, congregational worship leader, missionary leader, young adult leader,
youth leader, and college house chaplain.
Mr. Schaal is married to Michelle Lee Schaal. Dave and Michelle are the
parents of a daughter, Jessica, a son, Andrew, and a daughter Carlie.
