Invitation
It is good to greet you here in this sacred place to worship. May the spirit of the Lord be with us as we pray in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina in our prayers. Located in Eastern Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence in 1992 after the collapse of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe. Civil war then broke out between the Serbs, Croats, and Muslims; the conflict lasted three years, and led to an estimated 250,000 victims. Currently life is peaceful and relations between communities are relaxed, although not yet back to the pre-war level. The current leadership has applied for NATO membership.
Let us unite as one in supplication to our God and Savior as we pray for peace in our day and for our time.
Scripture Reading - Matthew 5:14-16 NIV
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before all people, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Creator in heaven.
Prayer for Peace
Ralph Holmes, Nottinghamshire, England
Our most gracious God, as we meet together to bring our devotions, we praise your Holy Name and give thanks for your abiding presence in our lives.
We live in a beautiful world, created for our pleasure and joy, but because of sicknesses of mind and body; because of selfishness and greed, there is physical, mental and spiritual hunger and poverty abroad.
We pray not only for the absence of conflict but also for the presence of your Spirit among the nations. We look to you, O God, as our source of strength and power to show us the way of peace, that as instruments in your hands, we, your people, may be used as agents of peace.May there be a greater understanding by those in authority of the needs of your people everywhere; that your Holy Spirit might empower and stir them to strive towards unity under the banner of your love. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
