Good afternoon, and thank you
for coming to share in this special time of prayer for peace. Each day
at this time, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each
day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Saint Lucia in our prayers. Saint
Lucia is located in the Caribbean. A pawn between France and Great
Britain for many years, St. Lucia gained full independence as a member
of the British Commonwealth in 1979. Bananas were an important export
crop until the “Banana Wars” of the 1990s which resulted in decisions
impacting the local farmers’ ability to compete against larger South
American banana producers. As a result, St. Lucia’s export revenue has
declined, and unemployment is on the rise. Tourism continues to boom,
although construction has not always followed environmentally sound
guidelines.
Let us unite with one heart in our worship of the giver of peace. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 163:4a |
| |
God, the Eternal Creator, weeps for the
poor, displaced, mistreated, and diseased of the world because of their
unnecessary suffering. Such conditions are not God’s will. Open your
ears to hear the pleadings of mothers and fathers in all nations who
desperately seek a future of hope for their children. Do not turn away
from them. For in their welfare resides your welfare. |

Prayer for Peace by Ila H. Purcell,
Independence, Missouri |
| |
Oh God of love and peace, our thoughts reach out to
honor and praise your holy name. We entreat your remembrance of all
humanity throughout your creation. We entreat your remembrance of the
many who are suffering in lands across the seas. Join our thoughts with
their thoughts for loving compassion to motivate a new desire to be your
family of nations. May you free us of all envy and lust in our
self-centeredness, that we might have peaceful relationships with your
spirit in our midst. Seal this blessing I pray thee. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Lord God, we praise you and come humbly with thankful
hearts, gratefully acknowledging your plan for all creation to be at
peace. As we sit peacefully in the safety of this place, forgive us if
we have become indifferent to the sufferings and despair in our world. |

| |
We remember those times when we have not acted in a peaceful manner.
Forgive us, we humbly pray. Guide us into those paths that will use the
knowledge you have given us to pursue justice instead of war. |
| The People Pray in Silence |

This day we especially pray for the nation and the people of St. Lucia.
May they be blessed with your Spirit as they walk on the path to peace. |

| |
We conclude our service today with ministry of music.
You are invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place
for as long as you may wish.
Peace to you, our welcome friend;
peace to you on your leap of faith.
God bless you when joy abounds,
God bless you when grief surrounds;
God bless us, for we too, search;
make us all a faithful church. Peace . . . Shalom. |
