Welcome today to this sacred
place, and thank you for joining us in prayer and worship. Each day in
this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace
in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Mauritania in our prayers. Part of
French West Africa until independence in 1960, Mauritania has been
influenced by Arab as well as African cultures. Crop growing is largely
confined to the floodplain of the Sénégal River. Some of the world's
richest fishing grounds lie off the coast. The population still largely
depends on agriculture and livestock for their livelihood, even though
recurring droughts in the 1970s and 1980s forced most nomads and many
subsistence farmers into the cities. Opposition parties were legalized
and a new constitution approved in 1991. For now, Mauritania remains an
autocratic state, and the country continues to experience ethnic
tensions.
We greet you in the name of God who calls us to peace in our time and
for our day. Let us worship the Prince of Peace. |

Praise Our God, all you nations, extol God,
all you mighty ones.
For God’s love toward us is great, God’s faithfulness, eternal.

Our Heavenly Parent,
We lift our spirit, heart, and voice to you this beautiful day praising
your Holy name. We lift the name of Jesus high, above every other name.
With every fiber of our being, we express our love for you.
We confess that our deeds and thoughts and understandings fall far short
of the standard that is found in Jesus Christ. Please forgive us, wipe
clean the slate of our life, and renew within us the power of right
living.
We thank you dear Lord for the many blessings you bestow upon us, your
most unworthy creatures. We thank you for our health, our freedom to
make choices, and the abundance that so steeps our daily life. We thank
you dear Lord for this day and the opportunities it so generously
presents.
Please bless us with the peace that passes all understanding. May we be
empowered by your Holy Spirit to participate in a Revolution of Peace
begun by our Savior that will sweep through your creation leaving no
living thing untouched or undisturbed. Bless us as your special
ambassadors of peace that your divine presence may penetrate all. Above
all, Lord, may your will be done.
In Jesus’ Holy name we humbly pray. Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Creator God, we praise you and give you thanks because
you not only set in motion all creation, but you continue to guide and
direct and sustain that creation. Guide all earth's people so that we
will use your creation in a just and equitable way. We desire that none
go hungry, cold, or lonely. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We ask divine forgiveness of our selfishness and pride which has made us
less than you created us to be. We bring to you our special needs and
concerns at this time. Hear us we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Many times a small band of people have made a great change in society
that has overcome the complacent majority. Help us to be such "changers"
as we work for peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would also remember, and ask your continued guidance for, the nation
of Mauritania. We thank you for all people there who are seeking peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Our God and our friend, we give you praise,
and honor, and glory as we offer ourselves to be instruments of your
peace on earth. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
We will conclude our service today with ministry of
music. You are invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of
this place for as long as you may wish.
May the God of peace keep us to fulfill our desires to be peacemakers in
the world. Let us go forth and be peacemakers. Amen. |
